Maurice Cain Teaching and sharing passion through the development and skills of Cain

ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC) — It’s the first thing you notice when you walk into the gym, the energy of Maurice Cain.

“I was still an energetic guy when I got there, so I just brought the energy, brought the passion, brought the love for what we do,” Maurice Cain said.

A two-sport athlete while at Mayo, he brings energy to each of his sessions as a skills coach every day.

He founded Cain’s Development and Skill in 2019 when the pandemic hit, but also because he knows from personal experience the price athletes have to pay for camps and training.

“I thought to myself that I was working at this camp and maybe I couldn’t even have afforded this camp myself,” Cain said.

“It really touched me to do something about it because we don’t have a lot of places to pick up a ball in the winter. If we only have one facility in Rochester, what do half the kids do? ? What do we do?”

So he took the equipment out of his own pocket, working two jobs and taking the time to train children for free.

“I’m tired. As soon as I’m done with work I’m tired, but the fact that I can just put that aside and go do what I love to do. It’s not a better job at the world, not a better job in the world to make someone else happy,” Cain said.

It is his love and care that shines through.

“It means a lot to have someone who has just invested in you not only as a basketball player but also in you as a person and wants to see you succeed and do your best in life,” Alex said. Gyarmaty, a student at Mayo High School.

“I want to be like Maurice even when my career ends. I want to come back to this game and hope to help kids like Maurice did,” said Mas’ud Ghedi, a student from Mayo High School.

This is why, through everything, he continues to show himself, to achieve his vision of Cain’s development and skills.

“Being a resource for the community. People can reach out, bring their children to a safe environment, someone they can trust, someone they know will do everything for their children, not just themselves” , said Cain.
