QUDWA-PISA Global Education Forum to explore the importance of education for global competence

Abu Dhabi, UAE: More than 150 education professionals, policy experts and decision makers from around the world will gather in Dubai this month for the Qudwa-PISA 2022 Global Skills Forum, taking place at Expo 2020 in Dubai. Participants are expected to discuss the importance of global competence for living in an interconnected world, exploring its adaptation to the classroom and its wider implications for society.

The forum, which will take place on 19and of February, will be held under the patronage of His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces of the United Arab Emirates, the forum is organized by the Office of Educational Affairs of the Court of Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, in collaboration with the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and the Bussola Institute.

“From emerging technologies to interdisciplinary curricula, educators today have a wealth of data, strategies and opportunities,” said His Excellency Mohammed Al Nuaimi, Director of the Office of Educational Affairs at the Court of the Crown Prince of ‘Abu Dhabi. “The challenge, then, is to continuously integrate these approaches so that today’s students not only have the tools to live fulfilling lives, but also to find solutions to the most pressing obstacles we face as collective, whether related to the global crisis, public health or climate change.

A series of high-profile speakers, including several UAE officials, and Andreas Schleicher, OECD Director for Education and Skills, are expected to address forum participants in several sessions throughout the daytime.

“The pandemic has shown us how interconnected we are as a global society – in today’s world, one country’s problem can quickly become everyone’s problem,” said Andreas Schleicher, Director , Directorate for Education and Skills, OECD. “But the same goes for solutions: thanks to technology, a great idea can revolutionize the way we live. We therefore need to help students understand their role not only in their local community, but also in the global community. This is what makes global competence education so important.

“Educators today have tremendous resources to draw on,” said John Dennehy, secretary general of the Bussola Institute. “However, with the flood of resources, the roadmap to create the individuals and leaders of tomorrow is challenging. With Qudwa, we hope to solve this problem through dialogue with experts who can leverage data and insight. experience to show us the way forward.
