Read DL writing contest launched – get your creative thinking ceilings

Read DL’s annual short story competition is open, with entries welcome in both the youth and adult categories.

This year’s theme is “Never Give Up!”

The prizes will be awarded in three categories, primary school students, secondary school students and over 18s. First, second and third place entries in each category will receive book tokens worth €50, €30 and €20 respectively.

Entries should not exceed 500 words and must be submitted by the closing date of Friday, March 25 at 5 p.m. They can be emailed to bridmcintyre@gmail.com or posted to the Read DL Creative Writing Competition, ETB Offices, Adult Education Centre, Ard O’Donnell, Letterkenny, Co Donegal.

Admission is free and there is no limit to the number of stories each writer can submit. Entries must be the original work of the author and not published, self-published, broadcast, or have won a previous competition.

Contact information including story title, writer name, school name, youth school email and phone number should be attached on a letter motivational and not on the same page as creative writing which will be judged anonymously. The story should be typed on one side of the paper.

Entries will be judged on originality, use of language, creativity and depth of feeling.

The winner will be announced during the Read DL Online Mini Festival which will take place from March 29 to 31.
