Energy Company, Founding Partner for Emergency Skills Development

Seplat Energy Plc has partnered with the Health Emergency Initiative to teach first aid techniques to secondary school students.

The training aims to build the capacity of young people to manage pre-hospital emergencies.

A statement made available to The PUNCH on Saturday noted that the initiative was focused on youth empowerment and social impact.

The statement read in part: “This initiative underscores the company’s social impact goal of making a difference through youth empowerment.

“This initiative has become imperative with the growing concern over the high incidence of cardiovascular diseases such as heart attacks, cardiac arrests and related deaths among Nigerians in recent years.

“Similarly, the threat of road accidents and other traumatic injuries is staggering. To back this up, the World Health Organization recently reported that RTA is the biggest killer of youngsters, especially in Nigeria and third world countries.

Speaking at the initiative’s inauguration ceremony, Seplat Energy Plc’s Director of External Affairs and Sustainable Development, Dr Chioma Nwachukwu, said Seplat is committed to empowering young people and reaching out to people. lives, which is why he got involved in the rescue initiative.

She said: “CPR and first aid skills are necessary for everyone and essential to saving lives in pre-hospital emergencies.”

Also speaking at the event, the representative of the Lagos State Education Commissioner, Mr. Ashaola Femi, applauded Seplat Energy Plc for the huge investment in young talent.

He acknowledged that the program could create a systemic change from the current negative culture of taking photos and videos at the scene of emergencies instead of helping victims.

He noted that it was this lofty aim that prompted the approval of the program by the Ministry of Education for HEIs to train all senior secondary students in Lagos earlier in the year.

In his speech, the Executive Director of the Health Emergency Initiative, Paschal Achunine, expressed his deep gratitude to Seplat Energy Plc for their enormous support. He commended the company for its commitment to the sustainability of its operating environment, bearing in mind that any investment in young people would result in business continuity.
