After a hectic school year, there’s nothing wrong with sleeping in and spending the day watching TV or playing video games. While it’s crucial to take a well-deserved break from your studies, spending all your time doing nothing could later make you regret accomplishing more during your vacation.

Summer vacation is the perfect time to have fun and prepare for the next school year or the world outside the classroom, whether it’s developing new skills or discovering something new. in the city. Below I have listed some of the important skills and ways to develop them.

“The best way not to feel hopeless is to get up and do something. Don’t wait for good things to happen to you. If you go out and do good things, you will fill the world with hope, you will fill yourself with hope.

-Barack Obama

What is a skill?

According to Merriam-Webster, “competence is the ability to use one’s knowledge effectively and perform well, an acquired power to do something competently, a developed aptitude or ability”. In other words, skill is the ability or talent to accomplish a task within a specified time using one’s time and energy.

Planning skill

As Dwight D. Eisenhower rightly said, “Plans are nothing, planning is everything.”

You may never have thought of planning as a skill, but kids, planning is a skill that lets you develop strategies and prioritize your time and tasks to achieve your goals. Having or developing planning skills helps you create a roadmap for completing a task before you try to start it. The best way to incorporate this talent into your life is to keep a planner or journal with you. Write down your daily, weekly, monthly and yearly tasks and goals and prioritize them according to their due dates and importance, then complete them one by one. It helps you stay focused and motivated towards your goals.

Although summer vacation is about to end, there are still a few weeks left that you can still plan for. For example, plan something you haven’t done yet; analyze the time remaining and the time needed for the activity you still want to do.

Organizational competence

How many times have you said to yourself, “I need to be organized” before you failed? This is a common problem we all face in life; poor organization generally leads to lower productivity and missed opportunities and can increase levels of stress and procrastination.

Planning and organization go hand in hand. So, after planning something, you need to focus and get organized. Being organized involves keeping your workspace organized, meeting deadlines, and working efficiently. For example, start by making your bed, which is the first step in organizing your personal space – your bedroom. Organize your clothes, shelves and study table. Declutter and donate your old books, clothes, and other things you don’t use often, so others can benefit from them.

Management of time

Time management is defined as “using your time productively and efficiently by putting aside all distractions”. But what about when you’re working as productively as possible and still can’t get it all done? That’s because time management is a combination of working productively and prioritizing your time.

The secret to mastering time management skills is to prioritize and categorize your daily activities from urgent to important. Set priorities, determine what needs to be done before anything else. So, for this, you need to characterize your daily tasks and tasks into four categories: most important, least important, most urgent and least urgent.

Urgent tasks require your immediate attention and action, while important tasks require more attention and you need to give them more time because not focusing on the importance could lead to poor results.

In my opinion, planning a schedule every night can make your day more productive and organized than not planning.

Communication

Communication is the flow of information from one place to another. It is an integral part of everyday life. Communication can be oral, in writing using print or digital media, such as books, magazines, websites or emails, through graphics using logos, aps, charts or graphics, or non-verbally using body language, gestures and tone and pitch of voice.

The ability to effectively use verbal and non-verbal communication, such as voice, tone, words, and body language according to the situation, audience, and time, is called communication skills and those who know how effectively they can use this talent, literally conquer the world. You can enroll in intensive online or summer courses at various language institutes or you can improve it yourself by listening to various speakers and motivational speakers online, using YouTube videos and educational sites such as the British Council, etc.
